REPUBLICAN ARMENIANS AMONG EARLY SUPPORTERS OF BUSH-CHENEY REELECTION CAMPAIGN

Washington, DC (8/1/03): A preliminary survey of Federal Election Commission filings by the National Organization of Republican Armenians (NORA) reveals strong early Armenian American support for the Bush-Cheney reelection effort.

With well over a year before the November, 2004 elections, the study found close to $80,000 in donations during the first two quarters of 2003. The review of common Armenian surnames on the publicly available Federal Election Commission website (www.fec.gov) does not reflect the contributions by Armenian
Americans with last names not traditionally associated with Armenian heritage. The current total for all Armenian contributions to the Bush-Cheney ticket is estimated by NORA at over $100,000.

"This vigorous early support for the Bush-Cheney ticket among Armenian American contributors reflects growing confidence in the President's leadership," said NORA Chairwoman Melanie Kerneklian. "I am certain that this support will continue to expand nationwide as the campaign starts its targeted outreach
to Armenian American voters." Mrs. Kerneklian, a leading Virginia Republican, has held a number of key governmental and appointed positions in the Commonwealth, including as the Chairwoman of the Governor's Armenia Advisory Commission, the first of its kind in the United States.
